MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS

DSC_0233

The museum of fine arts, temple of art history in Tournai, an iconic building designed by Victor Horta, houses numerous masterpieces which Dany Danino reinterpreted, recomposed, and re-appropriated! Daniel Locus in turn created astonishing still lifes with flowers that correlate perfectly with the selection of vanitas paintings housed at the museum.

The notion of “intersection” comes fully into its own here through this game of references by the artists!

Lose yourself in the comparisons, references, parallels, … A fine way to approach both art history and contemporary art!

Did you know?

The museum of fine arts is the only museum designed for the purpose by famed architect Victor Horta and is recognized as such as exceptional Walloon heritage.

The structure is referred to by some as the “turtle” due to the particular architectural form and constitutes an interesting example of the transition between art nouveau and modernism inspired by “art deco”.

Its collection of paintings, drawings, and sculptures is generally recognized by specialists as one of the five most important collections of its kind in Belgium. In addition to 19th-century artists such as Gallait, De Braekeleer, Delville, Ensor, and Khnopff, it is also home to works by Rogier Van der Weyden, Pieter Paul Rubens, Jacob Jordaens , but also Monet, Seurat, Van Gogh and Toulouse-Lautrec as well as two masterpieces by Edouard Manet.
